How CbamTrack calculates emissions, applies factors, and ensures compliance with IR (EU) 2025/2621.
CbamTrack follows the methodology set out in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621. Emissions are calculated per product using the formula:
totalEmissions = directEmissions + indirectEmissions
directEmissions = Σ(fuel × emissionFactorfuel)
indirectEmissions = electricityKwh / 1000 × electricityFactorcountry
Country-specific electricity grid emission factors are sourced from IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III and supplemented by national grid operator data where available.
| Country | Factor (tCO₂e/MWh) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Turkey | 0.451 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III, TEIAS 2024 grid data |
| United Kingdom | 0.212 | UK DESNZ 2024, IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| Canada | 0.130 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III, Canada NIR 2024 |
| United States | 0.388 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III, EPA eGRID 2024 |
| Australia | 0.610 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III, AEMO 2024 |
| China | 0.570 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| India | 0.638 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| Germany | 0.338 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| France | 0.055 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| Italy | 0.280 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| Spain | 0.248 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Annex III |
| Default (other) | 0.451 | IR (EU) 2025/2621 Art. 5 — default value +10% markup |
When a country-specific factor is not available, the default factor (0.451) is used with a 10% markup as required by IR (EU) 2025/2621 Art. 5. Affected calculations are clearly marked in the UI.
Per IR (EU) 2025/2621 Art. 2, companies with total production below 50 tons per quarter are exempt from CBAM reporting requirements. CbamTrack automatically detects this condition and displays a warning when generating reports for de minimis quantities.
The EU ETS carbon price is used to estimate CBAM liability. CbamTrack uses a 3-tier fallback chain:
ETS_PRICE_OVERRIDE environment variable.The active price source is displayed as a badge (Manual, Official, or Fallback) on all cost estimates.
CbamTrack analyzes emission data for anomalies using sector-specific benchmarks and energy consistency checks. Detected anomalies are flagged in reports with contextual warnings. This is a pattern-based analysis, not AI-based — all rules are deterministic and auditable.
All data changes (product creation, emission updates, report generation) are logged with user identity, timestamp, and before/after values. The audit log is accessible from the dashboard and provides a complete history for compliance verification.
CbamTrack is a reporting assistance tool. It does not provide legal, tax, or regulatory advice. Users should verify all reports against the official CBAM regulation (EU) 2023/956 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621. Emission factors and ETS prices are subject to change.
